Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 reveals its big bad in a promising new image

After announcing the postponement of Spider-Man: Next Generation 2 and 3, sony Passes the pill by revealing the first glimpse of Miles’ new enemy.

As Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire announced a few days earlier the exit of the dazzling No Way Home in theatersassuring Sony and Disney studios an optimal capitalization of this vast enterprise of fan-service, another equally anticipated version of Spider-Man has also manifested itself with its aficionados.

Following the tremendous and well-deserved success of Spider-Man: Next Generation – which nevertheless amassed a few $375.5 million globally, and scooped theOscar for best animated film under Mickey’s nose and beard -, Miles Morales made sure to continue to split the multiverse in the company of his sidekick Gwen Stacy for two more films, quickly announced as the next big hits of 2022 and 2023.

“So who are we fighting this time?”

Fans of Le Tisseur were however quickly disillusioned when last April, Sony announced on its Twitter account that it was obliged to postpone the release of Spider-Man: Next Generation 2 see you next summershifting the last part of the trilogy to March 2024. A difficult pill to swallow that the studios however softened during the Annecy Festival, in notably revealing the identity of the next antagonist principal of Miles Morales.

Dubbed by the actor Jason Schwartzman (On board the Darjeeling Limited, Rushmore), The Spot (the task, in French) was therefore introduced by Sony as a particularly formidable opponent. However, and as surprising as it may seem, this terrible enemy of Spider-Man ultimately turns out to be quite unknown to the general public. In fact, after broadcasting a short excerpt to a full house, Kemp Powersone of the three directors of this new opus, hastened to develop this unexpected choice:

“For those who aren’t seasoned nerds, The Spot is one of the most misunderstood antagonists in the Spider-Man universe. However, his powers have deeply excited our creative team: his entire body is covered in small interdimensional portals that can transport him anywhere he desires.

[…] We thought it would be super cool if the portals in question looked like some kind of living ink that had been spilled on an artist’s drawing. His powers are pretty simplistic, but they gave the team a whole host of very exciting creative challenges. »

Designed to look like an unfinished sketch, this new character confirms, among other things, the artistic ambitions of this new film, which, let’s remember, should explore six different universes, each with a distinct animation style. An exhilarating undertakingwe can’t wait to find out when it hits theaters on June 2, 2023.
