About two years before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, one of the sites in the athletes’ village is causing a problem. The Olympic works delivery company (Solideo) announced, on the evening of Monday June 20, that it had filed a complaint and terminated the contract awarded to a company for acts of illegal work, discovered during a surprise inspection of the labor inspection on June 9.
“We were informed on June 16 and the facts appear sufficiently substantiated and serious”, explained to AFP the general manager of Solideo, Nicolas Ferrand. According to the latter, the incident on a construction site related to the athletes’ village, located in Saint-Denis, will lead to “a delay of several weeks”. Nevertheless, he assures that the deadlines will be respected.

In March 2022, a dozen workers in an illegal situation had already been identified during another inspection by the labor inspectorate on the site of the athletes’ village. The investigation was triggered following a report from the CGT, which also warned Bernard Thibault, former secretary general of this union, who sits on the board of directors of Solideo.
With a budget of 4 billion euros, including 1.5 of public money, the company is responsible for building or renovating around sixty structures for the Paris Olympics, from the athletes’ village, to the renovation of gymnasiums. or road interchanges or bridges. The set must be delivered no later than December 31, 2023.
