Next July 13 is due out Thor: Love and Thunder in our cinemas. The opportunity for fans of the Nordic God to return to the dark rooms of France to discover the next adventures of the Asgardian. Only, this 9th Marvel movie may well be his last. Despite this decision, Kevin Feige shares his desire for this character so popular with fans.
a chris hemsworth on the way out
Since its first appearance in Thor in 2011, Chris Hemsworth has continued to see his flagship character be turned upside down by events. Betrayals of Loki, deaths of Frigga, Odin and then Loki, depression, the Asgardian gradually ends up hitting rock bottom. A descent into hell for the Nordic God who, however, decided to take charge in Thor: Love and Thunder. A cosmic adventure alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy that will allow her to regain her divine form, but above all to cross paths with Jane Foster, who has also become Thor.
New Mjolnir wielder, she will lend a hand to Thor against a new adversary: Gorr. Interpreted by Christian Bale, this “massacrer of the Gods” does not intend to do in the lace, his ultimate objective being to eliminate all the existing deities. A story of revenge that should be at the origin of epic fights between this umpteenth threat and two Thor in better shape than ever. However, Thor: Love and Thunder may well be Chris Hemsworth’s final MCU film.
In an interview with Wired, Chris Hemsworth initially explained that filming this fourth Thor film, alongside Taika Waititi, had been a fun experience. Despite everything, it may well be his last in the MCU:
Well, the last Marvel movie I shot was Thor: Love and Thunder and that might be my last Marvel movie, I don’t know. It was a wild, fun and wacky experience, as all Taika Waititi films are. (…) I’ve played this character for ten, eleven years now, and each time it was new and exciting, and this one was no exception. It was very fresh and felt like we were trying something we had never tried before. In Taika’s words, I think it was a goofy, wild romantic comedy set in space.
But an enthusiastic kevin feige
A statement which, however, should not shake the Marvel empire, its big pundits being probably already informed about the desires of Chris Hemsworth. Especially since this is not the first time that the Australian actor has expressed reservations about his future in the MCU. Earlier this year, he revealed that it was the presence of Taika Waititi behind the camera, as well as the quality of the script, which made him want to put on his divine boots. Despite everything, Kevin Feige would be ready to see Chris Hemsworth incarnate Thor for a new decade. In the latest issue of Total Film, the Hollywood producer does not hide his enthusiasm for the idea of future adventures:
I know this: there are many, many more Thor stories in the comics that we talk about a lot, and as we watch Chris Hemsworth continue to grow and evolve as a talented actor, I’d be excited to see how he continues. to develop this complex character.
It remains to be seen how it will end Thor: Love and Thunder. In addition, it’s a safe bet that this desire for Chris Hemsworth is not fitting with the script of the film and that Marvel is obliged to make it appear one last time to provide it with a worthy end. And who knows, maybe Chris Hemsworth will enjoy a new boost of motivation for this character who has been with him for over a decade now. Either way, Natalie Portman’s Thor seems more than ready to take over if needed.
