The job ofactor is less obvious than one might think. This is’impersonate someone else, to take his features, his way of speaking, to appropriate it. A game of mimicry whose principle is to make forget to the viewer that the character is fictional. And to learn how to do it, the easiest way is still to train and practice. Chris Evans learned from the greatest, including one in the mcu.
Chris Evans: his favorite actor is…
If Chris Evans is today recognized worldwide as a good actorespecially since his portrayal of Captain America in Marvel and the MCU, that hasn’t always been the case. The actor had his first real success in 2001 with sex academygiving the cue to a very young Scarlett Johansson in The Perfect Notes (2004) then Kim Basinger in Cellular the same year. It is above all his role as the Human Torch in the film 4 Fantastic of 2005 which will propel it. But since then, its popularity will only decrease, chaining films sometimes popular, sometimes not at all, but which will never be commercial successes. Until in 2011, he was chosen to play Captain America in one of the films that will be the mainstay of the MCU. A role he held for more than ten years until Avengers: Endgame.
And it was in 2012 with the first film avengers that the way Chris Evans approaches acting will change. Because for the first time, he meets another actor who, in his words, will have taught him many things: Robert Downey Jr.. This is what he explained to the microphone of the media BuzzFeed Celeb, in a very… canine interview. In the middle of many puppies for the promotion of the film Buzz Lightning where he lends his voice to the main character, he answered the various questions asked about his previous roles. Whenhe was asked which of his partners he had learned the most from, Chris Evans replied Robert Downey Jr:
Probably Downey. You know, he’s seen a lot, he’s been through a lot, and he’s so talented you’d be a fool not to listen to him. He has more experience than I will ever have.
A difference in age and career?
Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. have had many opportunities to make films together thanks to their major roles in the MCU. They have been opposed many times and the characters they play have become a part of themselves. The superheroes, like the actors, will have learned a lot from each other during these many years of cohabitation in the MCU. As for which one has the most experience, the answer is obvious. RDJ has multiplied roles since 1970, when he was only 5 years old, making appearances in his father’s films, Robert Downey Sr. (Robert John Elias Junior)then from the age of 15 in the 1980s where he made no less than 16 films over the entire decade (rising to 23 between 1990 and 1999).
In total, RDJ can boast of having acted in 81 films since the start of his acting career. Chris Evans is at 39 counting his two 2022 projects… Now that both of their characters have bowed out in the MCU, it’s going to be hard for them to work together from now on. After his role as Captain America, Chris Evans decided to leave superheroes behind. We saw it in the movies At Knives Out, Free Guy as well as Don’t Look Up: Cosmic Denialin which he makes a cameo. And soon in The Gray Man with Ryan Gosling. As for RDJ, he should play Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan’s biopic Oppenheimer in 2023.
