Joker 2 with Joaquin Phoenix: the director announces the sequel with a title!

Director Todd Phillips posted the cover photo of the Joker 2 script on his Instagram account, revealing the title of the feature film.

Todd Phillips has just unveiled on his Instagram account the cover of the script for the sequel to his film Joker as well as a photo of Joaquin Phoenix reading it.

We therefore discover the title (working?) of this second opus: Joker 2: Folie à deux, in French in the text. Like the first, the film is co-written by Phillips and Scott Silver.

At first glance, this title suggests that Arthur Fleck will no longer be alone and will be accompanied by Harley Quinn. A character already interpreted by Margot Robbie in the films and dubbed by Kaley Cuoco in animation.

But the term “Folie à deux” is also the name given to shared psychotic disorder. It designates a clinical situation in which, in prolonged contact with a delusional subject, a second subject adopts the same behavior.

Todd Phillips did not reveal any other details under his post, so we will have to wait to find out more.

Released in 2019, Joker focuses on the emblematic figure of Batman’s sworn enemy and paints the portrait of Arthur Fleck, an uncompromising man despised by society.

Far from the usual superhero films, the feature film was a real success, bringing in more than 1 billion dollars worldwide and 12 Oscar nominations. Joaquin Phoenix also won the Oscar for best actor for his incarnation of the Joker while Hildur Guðnadóttir won that of best original music.

Joaquin Phoenix in Joker

From the start Todd Phillips had planned a trilogy, but the break due to the Covid 19 pandemic and the busy schedule of the interpreter of the Clown Prince of Crime put a brake on the project. We now know that the sequel is assured, but filming should not take place before the end of the year, or even the beginning of 2023.

Meanwhile, Matt Reeves’ The Batman starring Robert Pattinson in the title role has grossed $770.3 million at the international box office and a sequel has already been announced.

But Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker and Pattinson’s Batman shouldn’t meet because they both exist in separate continuities from other DC adaptations. Matt Reeves even called on another actor to play the Joker.
