Following the acquisition of Lucasfilm by disney in 2012, the company acquired the rights to the saga Star Warsbut also those ofIndianaJones and of course, the multinational had ideas in mind. If the franchise Star Wars has since been wrung out by Disney, IndianaJones was not a priority. After years of rumor, it was in 2016 that the project Indiana Jones 5 has been confirmed.
Since that date, information about the film has arrived in dribs and drabs, as have certain disappointments. Thus, after several announcements of production delays, we learned that finally, Steven Spielberg was not going to direct the fifth part of the saga. Despite this news, the two other grandfathers of the franchise, John Williams and Harrison Ford, will be there, forty years after the first opus.
While he is perhaps (surely?) the most famous and appreciated composer of film music, John Williams notably assembled the musical themes of the films Star Wars and Jurassic Parkof AND the extra-terrestrial and dozens of others. In 1981, he collaborated for the fifth time with Steven Spielberg and composed the music for The Raiders of the Lost Ark. After composing the music for the following three films, the musician could bid farewell with Indiana Jones 5this is in any case what he announced to Associated Press :
“At the moment I’m working on Indiana Jones 5 and I believe that Harrison Ford – who’s a little younger than me – has announced that this will be his last film. So I thought if Harrison could do it, I could do the same.”
Did that good John Williams just make a dumpling? Even if it will soon blow out its 80 candles, Harrison Ford has never officially said he wants to retire, so either Williams loses the ball or he just dropped a big scoop. In any case, the actor should still make a few appearances, especially in The Miserable Adventures Of Burt Squire Aboard The Horn High Yoa film by Ben Bolea scheduled for 2023.
At the height of his 90 years, John Williams would be taking a well-deserved retirement after a more than fulfilled and more than successful career. Indiana Jones 5 will land on our screens on June 28, 2023.
