The 15th anniversary of the festival is an opportunity…
The 15th anniversary of the festival is the occasion for many tributes – starting with the emblematic films of the FFA. A retrospective will bring together all his gold and diamond Valois, screened from August 9 to 22. The opportunity to (re) see War is declared, much loved Where Hippocrates. Same approach for the Department, which offers, on the same dates, The Big Bath, papicha, discount… Everywhere in Charente. Tribute, finally, to Pathé, through an exhibition visible at the Franquin space, from July 13 to September 3; but also the screening of a dozen films, including The Children of Paradise. “The greatest film of all cinema”sighed Dominique Besnehard. The streets of Angoulême will also live to the rhythm of this anniversary, with an exhibition of XXL photos on the fourteen years of the FFA.
A jury accustomed to the festival
The Officers’ Room, Wild Grass or Black Box… At 76, he has toured with the greatest and won no less than three Césars and a Molière. The actor André Dussollier is the president of the jury of the 15e FFA edition. He hailed an auteur cinema where ” everything is possible “. At his side, Leyla Bouzid, director and screenwriter, already present last year; his feature film, A story of love and desirereceived the Diamond Valois in 2021. But also the actress and director Veerle Baetens. In the name of the earthin which she played, won a Valois in 2019 (best actor for Anthony Bajon).
We add the journalist Patrick Cohen, the actress Joséphine Japy, the actor Alexis Moncorgé, and Sébastien Pilote, director. Without forgetting Isabelle Kabano, also an actress, “after being, in 2020, awarded the Valois for best actress for Little Country,” she said. Same feeling for Alex Beaupain, singer-songwriter, especially film music, who has already come twice to sing. The jury of French-speaking students will be chaired by Gwendoline Hamon.
This tribute shows that we can be brought together by the seventh art.
Rwanda in the spotlight
“Despite some… Diplomatic concerns between our two countries, this tribute shows that we can be brought together by the seventh art”, said Rwandan actress Eliane Umuhire. The FFA is also a showcase for the country, “where the cinema is only in its infancy but is already developing rapidly”, underlined the Rwandan ambassador François Nkulikiyimfura. Result: ten films are presented, several of which are haunted by the 1994 genocide, including Operation Turquoise by Alain Tasma, or Little country by Eric Barbier, on the childhood of Gaël Faye, also at the heart of the documentary The Silence of Words.
A new partnership enriches the festival: the Brut media will be present throughout the FFA. From Facebook to Tiktok, the founder, Renaud Le Van Kim, wants to reach younger generations. Another novelty: music composed for the occasion will now accompany the trailers and the rise of the blue carpet of Angoulême. There is no doubt that she will soon become as representative of the FFA as Carnival of the Animalsby Camille Saint-Saëns, is for the Cannes festival.
