The Jeu de Paume is offering its first major exhibition to director Marine Hugonnier, a talented artist with unique practices. From June 8 to September 18, 2022, we discover the work of this committed filmmaker through the exhibition Le cinema à l’intérieur.

Documentary or fiction? Marine Hugonnier does not bother with these strict frameworks, and break all the rules which do not allow him to create freely. The filmmaker and contemporary artist is at the heart of the exhibition of the Palm Gamefrom June 8 to September 18, 2022. This photo and video exhibition, entitled Cinema in the stomachallows us to discover the unusual and committed works of an artist passionate about the image.

The director explores, in each work, our relationship to the image, the way our gaze lands on the world, and how this vision is translated on film. She is particularly interested in issues of Politics and of colonization : the way we see, the phenomena and objects that we represent or that we hide, these messages that we think are obvious without explaining them: is this dialogue centered on our Western cultures? Do we have the ability to see the world through alien eyes?

The artist travel many, armed with his camera, and his journeys to discover other civilizations are transcribed in his films. Always engaged against the shackles of Western societies, Marie Hugonnier also questions the questions of gender, of feminism and role.

Thus, through her works, Marine Hugonnier gives an active role to the spectator, which also calls into question the codes rooted in our societies. It redefines reality to include those who are invisible to imposed norms.

The director also works with the photography and the collages on paper. In these creations, the artist presents in his own way the events, the worlds that surround him, appealing to the viewer’s memory and consciousness.

the Palm game brought together many works, some unpublished, including films, organic elements and a performance to discover in a dynamic course. The scenography and performative elements of this exhibition make each visit a unique experience. You can see and review this exhibition, and experience new emotions every time!

Marie Hugonnier has perfected her art, revealing new ways of capturing images, new ways of making films, and talk about the world. A poignant exhibition to discover this summer.
