But what was she thinking? This is what thousands of Internet users are wondering about an extra hidden behind Benedict Cumberbatch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. A “performance” that hasn’t finished making people laugh!

Have you seen Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ? The twenty-eighth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe takes the superhero wizard on a wild adventure through various parallel worlds, with plenty of twists and surprise guests. The feature film is, in some respects, what marvel studios made it closer to a horror movie. But as always, the humor is obviously there. The most hilarious moment of the film could well, however, be the result of an accident… or the work of a bit too zealous extra!

If you subscribe to Disney+, the scene starts at 4:38, while Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) attends the wedding of her friend Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams). Behind the star, for a long minute, a woman is agitated oddly, the air completely lost. Like a madwoman, with a silly smile on her lips, she looks up, to the right, to the left, seems to be talking to a ghost… Passed unnoticed in the cinema, the scene was spotted by fans as soon as the film arrived on the platform streaming, just over a week ago. Since then, various extracts and screenshots have been circulating on TikTok and Twitter. Results : over a million views !

Benedict Cumberbatch’s mother?

Of course, everyone asks the same questions. Who is this woman ? And why did she behave like this during the filming? A netizen jokes: “Her agent told her to do the performance of her life and she did.” Others wonder if Sam Raimi left it there on purpose. The director ofevil Dead and Spiderman is known for his biting humor: not impossible, therefore, that this eccentric extra is his last joke. As for her identity, some have suggested it could be Benedict Cumberbatch’s mother, comedian Wanda Ventham, now 86. Contacted by The Guardian, the agent of the actress has formally denied : “I can categorically say that this is NOT Wanda Ventham”. And for the moment, we don’t know more… So let’s hope that the mysterious artist will come forward to the media. Who knows, it may be, for her, the beginning of a great career in Hollywood!
