After two years of Covid, the great péi carnival and its star, King Dodo, are back in Saint-Gilles. The program of festivities, which once again promise to be colorful!
It’s the return of the Grand Boucan! After two years of absence due to the health crisis, King Dodo and the spectacular parade that precedes it will once again animate the streets of Saint-Gilles this Sunday, June 26.
For this new edition, the chosen theme is “Art musée vous”. There is no doubt that references to Picasso, Warhol, Kandinsky or Mondrian will be on the floats and in the disguises!
At the heart of the parade, there will be nearly 50 cultural associations and dance troupes and other artistic expression, from the Etincelles Panonnaises to the Sacred Drums, via Run do Brasil, Byin Mayé, New Gravity, Sours Pekysion, Aduna, Fé Roulé… .
The parade will start at 2:15 p.m. at the top of rue Général de Gaulle, and will go to Les Brisants at the end of the afternoon.
At 5 p.m., DJ Bert will take control of the turntables, before the Saint-John concert at 6 p.m. At 8 p.m., a fire show with Gran Pat will announce the traditional setting on fire of King Dodo at 8:30 p.m…. Followed by fireworks. Finally, Kanasel will conclude the evening.
Animations will also be planned on the port of Saint-Gilles, in the rue de la Poste, and at the bottom of the rue Général de Gaulle. On the fairground market square, you can find the Hip Hop Interface association for battles and a dancefloor atmosphere.
Practical details: traffic will be prohibited in Saint-Gilles from 1 p.m. on Sunday June 26 to 1 a.m. Two car parks are available to accommodate visitors, who can then take the free Kar’Ouest shuttle from 1 p.m. to midnight: to the north, that of Intermark and Burger King, and to the south, that of the Ermitage roundabout.
The city of Saint-Paul has taken several decrees to allow the smooth running of the event.
Le Grand Boucan, organized since 1997 by the Pôle Sud company, with the support of the tourist office and the town hall of Saint-Paul, brings together several thousand participants in a single parade, adorning the entire street with a thousand colors main street – General de Gaulle street – of Saint-Gilles-les-bains. Disguised visitors mingle with dancers, street performers and floats.
During the last edition in 2019 – on the theme of myths and legends 2.0 – more than 10,000 people took part in the event.
